Rivalry

wavering on spectral legs
these envious step-sisters
of the ghost orchid

  1. peel the bark
I hear the first one say
    the Sun needs
    to get inside
    the heart of time
    the second one nods
    and crawls in finger petals
    fashioning little wings
for those that follow her lead
    while the third one
    just sits
    and brews
tinctures of what the other two
    knew to leave behind
    what they dug through
so that we might be able
    to taste how even bitters
    can become sweet
    when given the paces
    of what desire for beauty
    can reach through
    to lace us
    insatiable, neat
    and right
    between a shadow
    and a bleed of light
